postheadericon Madonna Turned 55 and Is Still a Fashion Icon

A few days ago, we celebrated Madonna’s 55th birthday. But instead of simply wishing her “Happy birthday!”, we took a look at her fashion style, making a brief analysis of her fashion choices over time.

No other artist has influenced fashion as much as Madonna did. She adopted and developed the strangest trends, she breathed and embraced fashion, being consistently creative and becoming an international style icon.

Since the early 80s, with the street-smart image of Boy Toy, in the over 30-year career, Madonna’s style has gone from street-smart image Boy Toy until today, when at 55 years old she is one of the most stylish appearances ever, with a very well defined style.

Some of the most memorable styles of the artist include Jean-Paul Gaultier corsets and elegant dresses from some of the leading fashion brands.

Madonna Fashion Icon

We’re starting with 1984, when Madonna wore young and very colorful outfits, mixing denim and neon colors, a style that would be the precursor of the pop-fashion in the ‘90s.

Madonna was the first artist who appeared during her stage performances wearing body tops. It was in 1987 when this happened and the artist became a sex symbol. In 1990, with the Blonde Ambition tour, Madonna collaborated with Jean-Paul Gaultier, the designer making one of the most iconic fashion statements for Madonna: the conical bras.

The Goth period reflected in the late ‘90s shows Madonna’s more feminine side, immediately after the release of the film Evita, which you can watch with Comcast Boston, should you happen to live in the Boston area. And if in the ‘80s Madonna was a rebel, with the turn of the decade she thought it would be time for a change, so she gave the Gothic style a shot. So in the video for “Frozen” from the album “Ray of Light”, released in 1998, the singer appears brunette, with long hair dressed in black from head to toe. Madonna was changing and her fashion choices reflected this chance.

The New Punk look opened the New Millennium, the year 2000 bring us the Drowned tour. Plaid, chains, studs, British influence from living in London because of her marriage to director Guy Ritchie.

Year 2004 brought us the return of the body tops with the Re-Invention tour. The disco queen status was regained by the multitude of colors, sequins, crystals that decorated the clothes she wore.

From 2006 until today we are witnessing a high-fashion inclination, meaning that Madonna is wearing the most famous high fashion labels, even becoming the image Louis Vuitton in a season, wearing the famous rabbit ears that Marc Jacobs imagined.

Madonna won in 2007 the title of World’s Top Fashion Icon offered in the prestigious Elle Style Awards ceremony, due to her experimental and ever changing fashion style. In 2007, Madonna released her own line of clothes “M by Madonna” to celebrate the company H & M.

Without a doubt, Madonna has been an inspiration for the masses and the ultimate “material girl”. She is and always will be a rebel, both in behavior and in fashion choices.
